Over a century ago, dictator Benito Mussolini had the ambitious vision to resurrect Rome’s imperial beauty through the creation of a monumental metropolis known as the 'Third Rome,' particularly focusing on the E42 district, now called EUR. Originally designed for the 1942 Great Universal Exhibition, the project was, ironically, abandoned due to the upheaval of World War II.
A visual testament to the Italian dictator's unfulfilled dream, the book titled 'E42' captures the essence of the site through the lens of film editor and director Aitor Bigas. His poignant collection of images documents the present state of EUR, engaging in a reflecting dialogue with insightful texts contributed by researcher Gemma Penya. The result is a portrayal of the stark contrast between Mussolini’s envisioned glory and the silent reality that EUR has become, inviting readers on a romantic stroll through the fuming ruins of a dream that failed to materialize.
